CASE STUDY - 03

kikki.K Astrology Collection
Creating twelve distinct illustrations within one cohesive collection.

For kikki.K’s 2025 Astrology Collection, I created twelve original illustrations, one for each sign of the zodiac. Working closely with Creative Director Lisa Gorman, I developed the artwork into a collection spanning an Astrology Journal, notebooks, greeting cards, stickers and T-shirts.

The design challenge was balancing individuality with consistency. Each sign needed its own personality, while the illustrations had to sit comfortably together and translate across products with very different scales and purposes.

Illustrating the zodiac

The twelve zodiac signs provided the starting point for a series of individual visual interpretations. I developed each illustration with its own character and composition, considering both how it worked independently and how it contributed to the collection.

Working across the full set meant continually moving between the individual drawing and the wider range. The relationship between the illustrations mattered: each needed enough distinction for someone to connect with their own sign, while sharing a visual language with the other eleven.

Bringing the collection together

Developing the illustrations as a family required attention to the balance of detail, scale and composition across the series. An illustration could work well on its own but still need refinement when placed alongside the others.

That relationship became central to the design process. I considered how the artwork would appear together across the range, maintaining consistency while giving each sign room to retain its personality.

From illustration to product

The artwork was developed across an Astrology Journal, notebooks, greeting cards, stickers and T-shirts. Each application brought different requirements for placement, scale and the amount of detail that could comfortably carry through.

I adapted the illustrations to suit these formats, considering how the artwork related to the surrounding layout and the product itself. This allowed the same visual language to move across stationery and apparel while feeling considered in each application.

My involvement continued through product development, finished artwork and production, carrying the illustrations from initial concepts into the completed commercial range.

Twelve signs, one collection

The finished collection brings together original illustration and product design, giving each zodiac sign an individual expression within a recognisable family.

For me, the project captures the connection between drawing and designing: developing an illustration’s character, then working through the decisions that allow it to become something people can use, wear, keep or give to someone else.
